Coffee's Coffee Brewing Tutorial

My two favorite coffee making methods.

Note: Using a scale is the most important thing. It's very hard to eyeball water and grounds at first.

Choosing the coffee

This is up to your taste, but part of the reason why coffee can be bitter is because it's a dark roast. Try a lighter roast without sugar. The added sugar makes the resulting coffee jet black but also tends to be bitter and of a lower quality. I prefer Brazilian origin coffees but go ahead and try different kinds, it's part of the fun.

I : Deep Flavor ( but takes 4 minutes of waiting )

You will need:

Method:
  1. Measure 5 grams of coffee grounds per 100ml of coffee you want in the end. A common mug has around 250 ml. Around 12 grams for a mug should be fine. By using scale it's very easy to adjust everything to get the best results.
  2. Put the empty container on top of the scale, put the coffee grounds, and zero it.
  3. Get water to boiling temperature, carefully pour it on the container on top of the scale until you reach the weight of water needed. If you used 15 grams of grounds, you'd need to reach 3 x 100 grams of water, that is 300 grams of water.
  4. Let it steep for 4 minutes, then with a spoon remove the floating grounds. Don't stir or shake the container.
  5. Carefully pour on the mug from the container through the strainer. Make sure to not pour the grounds at the bottom through the filter. Leave them in the container.
  6. Enjoy, it's going to be great.

II : Fast Method

You will need:

Method:

  1. Put the mug on top of the scale, and the sock filter on the mug. Measure the needed coffee the same way as before.
  2. Hold the filter with the coffee above the mug. Zero the scale.
  3. Pour water from the kettle onto the grounds inside the filter somewhat slowly. If it gets foamy wait a few seconds. Just make sure to get all the grounds wet and not fill the filter up all at once.
  4. Enjoy, you'll probably use this method from now on.
Note: You can do exactly the same with a paper filter and a melita but it takes more time.

How to keep the cloth filter clean?

After use wash it in the tap without detergent, and put it in a ziplock, then store in the fridge for later use. This will keep it in good condition. Rinse before use with a bit of boiling water. Detergents will alter the flavor of the coffee. Throw it away whenever you want, it's a disposable device.

Have fun and don't drink too much coffee. This is just how I like to make it, follow this at your own risk.
